Last article I wrote was about repairing textiles. Today I would like to tell you more about how nature repairs and how the textile industry mimics nature, also called Biomimicry. (Read the book from Janine Benyus for more information)
There are many textiles made from plant materials: they grow, we harvest them and make textiles from them. If produced and decorated in the right way the textile can fully biodegrade. For example textiles made from (food) waste.

But did you know that it is possible to grow textiles from bacteria and fungi?
Another interesting aspect is self repairing or self healing textiles. You can learn from nature, an squid for example can repair itself. Learning from nature is called Biomimicry, just go to asknature.org to get more inspiration.
